Plant Monitoring
09/01/2016 | Heavy Industry
The client, a large manufacturing plant, with many hazardous areas and with high magnetic field issues due to the reduction process utilized during manufacturing, wish to have their new expansion plant connected to the existing facility equipment. The existing plant equipment is some ten to twenty years old. The client requested to have the information from the existing and new plant displayed graphically on common screens internal and external to the plant.
AMEREX Integrated Solution
AMEREX Integrated visited the owner of the plant to understand the full extent of the project. AMEREX Integrated conducted a walk-through of the existing plant and reviewed the scope of the new expansion planned for the site. Over the months of May and June 2016 AMEREX Integrated conducted a series of tests employing remote field nodes 2 off 1 x single analogue input and 3 x digital inputs. The test nodes were positioned in a section of the plant and in an area of very high magnetic fields. During the tests the nodes were remotely monitored by AMEREX Integrated diagnostic software tool (Portal) which displayed the changes of state of the field device. During the tests the data from the field devices (switches and analogue inputs) did not show any adverse electrical corruption. On removal of the field devices from the site, the units showed no physical deterioration or adverse effects from the hostile environment that it had been situated in - a very high magnetic field.
The Results
The result of the field tests proved the AMEREX Integrated field equipment had not been affected by the hostile environment which the units were subjected to during the test period. Thus, for the first time the plant owner had flexibility within the plant, enabling the connectivity of the old and new systems together. More importantly, delivery of data from the field devices to a graphical display was achieved and providing an equipment status indication of the various systems throughout the plant.
