Facilities Management Company

A Facilities Management company in Europe were faced with the problem of monitoring the status (open or closed) of fire doors at various hospitals around the UK. The fire doors were to be open during the day, unless automatically closed in the event of a fire, and closed at night. To check if the doors were open or closed meant that each hospital had to send a person each night on a round of the hospital to check if the doors were closed. In one hospital there were 184 sets of fire doors, which took several hours to check resulting in a lot of time and money being expended.
AMEREX Integrated Solution
Amerex Integrated worked in conjunction with the Facilities Management company to provide a solution where the Amerex Integrated wireless network and the associated site controller automatically populated the Facilities Management companies own software.
Each set of fire doors were monitored for status with the use of two small magnetic switches connected to an Amerex Integrated encapsulated node model 30113. The power for the units was taken from the 24vDC supply to the doors magnetic releases. After a radio survey it was established that the 30113 nodes could be monitored by a minimal number of 30500 site controllers located in accordance with their optimum operating characteristics.
The Results
As well as being able to check if the fire doors are closed at night, the Facilities Management software can now also check if the fire doors have closed in the event of a fire alarm being received and actioned by the fire panel. The best result is that the hospitals are saving a lot of time and money and are able to use their manpower more effectively.
