Upgrading a Tank Farm Complex
12/01/2016 | Oil & Gas
The owner of a tank farm in northern Europe wished to change the facility from storing non-hazardous to hazardous products. The company investigated the possibility of installing remote monitoring for the rim seal fire detection systems on each tank in the storage complex and have all the information transmitted to a central location within the site and possibly to the corporate headquarters.
All the monitoring equipment to be housed in Ex rated enclosures.
AMEREX Integrated Solution
AMEREX Integrated conducted a site survey of the plant and advised the facility owner on their findings. The system employs a 30112 node on each tank, approximately 15, and each 30112 monitors the status of the tank. The tanks also have an addition two digital inputs for various flow switches. If there are any changes to the tank parameters the data is transmitted through the AMEREX Integrated mesh network. The change of tank data is transmitted to a local site controller which is connected to the site intranet. The tank farm is presented on AMEREX Integrated Monitoring system (AIMs) which is a graphical user interface. The graphical display (AIMs) shows the tank farm with AMEREX Integrated innovative pop-up window system. The pop-up windows indicate the status of each tank in virtual real time. If a change is detected in or on the tank the pop-up window will alarm and inform the owner by and e-mail alert and an alarm indication on AIMs.
The Results
The owner of the tank farm complex saved the cost of installation of new cable runs and expensive hazardous enclosures. They also have the capability of monitoring the virtual real time situation of the farm complex.
